We're not apologizing for caring about our children.

This year, I've spoken to dozens of educators across the country in different types of schools and communities and one thing remains true: society needs to do better by our children. So many of our children are in pain and it's showing up in different ways. Here's what we believe:

We believe every child deserves a great education.
We believe every educator (that includes teachers, principals, social workers, paraprofessionals, and others) should believe in a great education.
We believe in teaching children not regardless of who they are, but because of who they are.
We believe in elevating schools, policies, and systems that demonstrate authentic care for children.
We believe children aren't just the future, but the present.
We believe in public schools and we want better for our children in every school they attend.

We can do so much better than leaving it to the next generation to figure it out.

Key questions we'll explore: What are the dimensions of educational activism, and what roles have NYC educators played within them? Work alongside fellow K-12 NYC educators! How have NYC educators, students, families, and community members envisioned, sought, and achieved justice since the 1930s? Learn from and with scholars and community activists! Earn a $500 honorarium & CTLE credits! How, and to what degree, have local and national movements for educational justice interacted? Why do histories of educational activism for racially minoritized groups matter, and what role does intersectionality play in those histories?
