What Does "Public" Mean To Us?
We are the "public" in public schools. At EduColor, we have a breadth of members from public to private schools, including charter and homeschooling situations as well. We've wrestled with this idea of "choice" for decades and came to agreement after robust discussions about our work.
Two overarching values stand out in the argument: the idea that each child deserves a great education and the idea that society should be held responsible for ensuring educational equity. At EduColor, we see how time and again, we've been pushed to think about individual children often to the detriment of the collective. These are situations in which no one wins.
We aspire to something different.
We believe we can have urgent, short-term goals towards students learn well. We also believe these small steps lead towards a larger society-building so every child knows they're getting the best education possible, not just measured by test scores.
As with our classrooms, we'll meet people where they are, so we can take them further than they've imagined. Our futures are intertwined. Let's do this together.
